Fall Out Boy
American pop punk bands continue to be successful in the charts and Fall Out Boy has a loyal fan base. Formed in 2001 in a suburb of Chicago, the current members are Patrick Stump on lead vocals and guitar, Pete Wentz on bass guitar, Joe Trohman on guitar and Andy Hurley on drums. Stump writes most of the music and Wentz writes the majority of the lyrics, often expressing personal experiences.
In addition to chart success, the band has a busy schedule of live gigs and tours. They have toured the US, Canada, Europe and Japan. Fall Out Boy have also played in countries, not normally on the rock tour circuit, such as South Africa, Uganda and Russia. They have a connection with Uganda because they support the charity, Invisible Children Inc., which is an organization that helps children in Northern Uganda, affected by civil war.
The first album to be released came in 2002 and was titled Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend. This was followed in the following year by Take This to Your Grave, which became a gold record later in their career. The huge breakthrough for the band occurred when the third album, From Under the Cork Tree achieved triple platinum sales. It was the first of their records to be released through a major label and it won awards. The latest album came out in 2007, named Infinity on High. This record reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and contained tracks with choral and orchestral parts. The single, This ain't a Scene, it's an Arms Race was another Number 1 hit.
The band has said that their latest recording sessions have left them with enough songs to bring out another album in the near future. In 2004, Fall Out Boy brought out an EP with acoustic versions of songs, titled My Heart Will Always be the B-side to my Tongue. This 2-disc set includes a DVD with videos and a photograph gallery. For fans who want to listen to the band playing live, a live recording of a gig in Phoenix was released on April 1st 2008. It contains a CD and a DVD of the 2007 gig.
The band has been fortunate in enjoying commercial success from the beginning. Their very first single, Sugar, We're Goin' Down, reached number 8 in the Billboard Hot 100, quite an achievement for a new band. Their status was further enhanced in 2006 when they were nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy. Fall Out Boy like to give something back and they participated in the United States concert for Live Earth in the summer of 2007.
